Liquid, illiquid mandate

A mandate is a management contract with a specified performance benchmark given by an investing institution to an asset manager. Typical illiquid mandates would include private equity, structured credits, etc.; liquid mandates would generally focus on listed or quoted stocks or bonds, money markets, etc. See liquidity.
