Spread

Or ‘credit spread’. The difference at a given maturity between the yield on government bonds and on a credit instrument in the same currency (e.g. Euro BB corporate debt, specified emerging market debt, etc.). A wide spread means high-risk aversion; conversely, a narrow spread means a high-risk appetite.
